There are certain physical changes that both men and women experience due to sexual stimulation. Nipple erection is one such reaction. This reaction can occur both in males and females due to the existence of nipples in both sexes. However, sexual stimulation of the nipple is more commonly associated with female breasts. A woman’s breasts are extremely sensitive due to the large amounts of nerve endings. This is why nipple erection is one of the first indicators that the woman is sexually aroused. It normally takes only around 8 seconds of stimulation for the nipples to become erect and hard.
This phenomenon of physical changes due to sexual arousal is called the Sexual Response Cycle in scientific terms. The stages of sexual arousal include vasocongestion and Myotonia. The nipple erection occurs due to the Vasocongestion. Besides nipple erection, it causes vaginal lubrication, increased blood flow to the breasts etc. Nipples are also considered one of the erogenous zones on a female’s body. It is most commonly stimulated for sexual arousal due to its sensitivity. In some women, nipple stimulation is also known to cause orgasms.
The erection of the nipple can also be caused due to cold weather or in breast feeding mothers. The erection in the nipple does not follow the same principle as the penis. Nipple erection has more in common with goose bumps. Nipple erection is caused by the body’s nervous system which manipulates and contracts the muscle in the breast.
