Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush, Akshara Haasan
Shamitabh has a doubly dramatic act - but less emotion
Story: Mute Daanish becomes a superstar when Amitabh Sinha provides him his voice - what happens when ego pulls body and speech apart?
Review: So, Shamitabh has a lovely concept - a boy falls in love with the movies and dreams of becoming a star. He has pizzazz, passion, presence - but no voice. Daanish (Dhanush) is born mute, his soul, like the film-mad lad of Cinema Paradiso, finding utterance with movies, Igatpuri's bus conductor (rather like a certain Rajini Sir) determined to achieve stardom. Daanish hits Film City and impresses assistant director Akshara (Haasan) but directors reject a mute hero.
Akshara's doctor dad introduces Daanish to technology which, using embedded micro-recorders and ear-pieces, enables a mute person to communicate via a 'borrowed' voice. Daanish and Akshara find the perfect voice - that of Amitabh Sinha (Bachchan), a failed actor, snubbed due to his baritone, who lives in a graveyard, soaked in whisky and cynicism. Amitabh's tickled by the idea of making his rejected voice successful and the 'Shamitabh' team becomes a super-hit.

Yesterday, the Delhi High Court stayed the release of Gulaab Gang. The Madhuri Dixit-Juhi Chawla starrer is reportedly based on the life of activist Sampat Pal Devi, the founder of Gulabi Gang, a group of pink sari clad women vigilantes of Uttar Pradesh. Pal had moved the High Court seeking a stay order on the film, alleging that the filmmakers did not take her permission and the movie shows her in a bad light.
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva stayed the release of the film this Friday, reasoning that it will cause 'irreparable damage' to Pal's reputation. Speaking to Mirror from Delhi, Sampat Pal Devi said: "It's a personal victory for me, my faith in the country's legal system has been restored." When asked if the move was driven by the prospect of a monetary settlement, she retorted, "My reputation is at stake. Right now I'm very happy with the judgement. For anything else, please talk to my lawyer."

Much has been debated about the making and the story of Superstar
Salman Khan's latest outing Jai Ho, prior its release. Having hit the
marquee today, the movie is somewhat similar to his previous outings
like Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard. But what makes it different from his
previous movies is its theme and story that send out a clear message to
the society. Like Sanjay Dutt in Munna Bhai MMBS, Sallu Miyan rocks the
film goers in his different avatar as social crusader. The film throws
more light on the humane side of Dabangg Khan. Continue to read Jai Ho
review.
Jai Ho is an action drama with all commercial elements to woo all
classes of audience. Salman Khan's performance is the main highlight of
the film. AR Murugadoss' story, Dilip Shukla's interesting screenplay,
punch dialogues, Sajid-Wajid's songs, Sandeep Shirodkar's background
score, Santosh Thundiyil's beautiful picturisation, well-choreographed
action and dance sequences and a few comedy scenes are other big
attractions in the film.

Superstar Salman Khan, known for breaking box
office records with his every film, says he is concerned about the box
office fate of his upcoming release 'Jai Ho' as he really likes the film
and wants it to do well.
"It is said that the most
favourite film of the actor hasn't worked, so that fear is also there.
So far it's not happened with me, but there will be a time that it will
happen. I hope this doesn't happen with me with this film, because I
really like it. The film has a lot of action, comedy, romance etc, and yet is not in the same format as my earlier films," he said.
'Jai Ho', directed by Sohail Khan, stars Salman, Tabu, Danny Denzongpa,
newcomer Daisy Shah, Sana Khan, Suniel Shetty and others. The film, a
remake of Telugu flick 'Stalin', is set to release on January 24.
Earlier, in an interview to , Salman had said that the space of masala
entertainer films is explored too much in Bollywood and the genre will
die some day owing to repetition. The actor said 'Jai Ho' did not have frivolous action.
"The 'Wanted' format is considered as an action film, whereas it is
not. They are films with motive, drive and huge emotional content behind
them. There is a story to it, it is not random, frivolous action that
you kick and the villains are flying out. That format looked good, the
films that came in that time like 'Wanted', 'Singham', 'Dabangg' became
huge hits," he said.
Salman feels the movies which are being
made in this space now have very little work for heroes while the
fighters are doing more. On the other side, the hero in his films is
doing everything - from climbing, jumping, fighting, romancing to
comedy.

When the clock struck 04:03 am on January 03, 2014, John Abraham wrote on Twitter, “Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed 2014! May this year bring you love, good fortune and joy. Love, John and Priya Abraham.”
The moment one saw this message the news spread like wild fire that John and Priya have finally tied the knot and this was a way of telling everyone and making it official.
Well the truth is that John and Priya who were holidaying in the US had planned their wedding a couple of months ago in Los Angles. John had completely denied the reports then, but according to our sources the ceremony that took place at a registrar’s office was a private affair, attended by very close friends and family. By wishing everyone a Happy New Year from both of them, John just made his status known to everyone. Both John and Priya are known to be very private people but then such things can hardly be hidden.

Yo Yo Honey Singh,

Yo Yo Honey Singh, 30, was called Honey at home. He lived in England where despite the British blacks, the American ones were followed and aped who would say 'Yo' for 'Yours'. So Honey added 'Yo Yo' to his name that means 'Your Honey Singh' or 'I am yours' as he says lovingly. From being 93 kgs to wanting to just create music, he has not just made it, but has made it big. He never celebrates his achievement as he has a big vision for himself. Post the success of his recent song 'Sunny Sunny' from 'Yaariyan', we spoke to the extremely simple and sorted rockstar. Excerpts:
You have had instant success. Let's talk about your journey to fame?
My success has not come easily, it has taken me more than 10 years. I was born in Delhi, have stayed and roamed the world, but had a tough childhood and career path. Only my mom and mausie supported me in music. So, I would just sing shabad kirtan to remain somehow attached to music. We then moved to Coventry in England as my dad had his business there. But I left home to come to London to learn music and worked as an apprentice to survive and would assist blacks from Miami for just 100 pounds a week. I had no money, no work and survival was very tough. Jassi Sidhu tried to get me work, but no one gave me a chance.
I would land up fighting with everyone in England and get fired from everywhere. They told me people in Punjab were more loving and there were lesser ego problems there, so I came to Punjab. We had our old house in Chandigarh, in which I opened my office. I never wanted to become Honey Singh. I was just 5 feet 9 inches, but 93 kgs. I only wanted to become a music director and wanted to give India a rockstar. But I soon realised that the kind of music I wanted to make was different from both, the bhangra market in England and the rural market in Punjab, and, thus, no one accepted my music even here. With two lakhs, I started working as a music director for a Punjabi album.

My mother had moved back with me to Punjab. I then met Ashok Mastie in Delhi, who asked me to make a song for him and I made a mainstream hip-hop song Glassi for him, but he did not like it. He told me that it would work in England but not India. I told him unfortunately it does not even work in England, but I will make it work in India. I then went back to England and a few months later, I was told that Ashok was frantically searching for me as his producer's son had really liked the song. I had only sung for the scratch version but they liked that and so I became a part of the song and also the video, as they felt I had this England look that would connect with the youth. By that time, I had lost weight and become 76 kgs. The video became No. 1 on the BBC World charts. But the irony was that no one in England knew either Ashok Mastie or Honey Singh and so none of us gained from it.

Shanti Dynamite, a 21-year-old adult star of Indian descent from UK, will soon be seen setting the screen on fire with her act in an upcoming Hindi film, which is being directed by Saurabh Malik, who debuted as an actor in 'Ab Hoga Dharna Unlimited', last year.

Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan, who is in the city on Thursday for the promotion of his controversy-hit film 'Vishwaaroopam', said he was "seriously" thinking of leaving the country if this kind of row erupted again.
"In anger...in emotional outburst I would have said that I will leave the country. It does not mean I will do it..I enjoy the glory and fame. But if this happens again, I will seriously think of leaving. I am serious," Haasan told reporters.
The actor had earlier made an impassioned plea seeking the release of the film in his home state Tamil Nadu, saying that he would go abroad in search of a "secular state" where he would be allowed to continue pursuing his art.
He said he was thankful to Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha for offering help. "She is an artist, she has understood, she has come forward. I am grateful," he said.
There were reports that Haasan will take the fight over the release of his film 'Vishwaroopam' to the Supreme Court. "Now that she (Jayalalitha) is helping me, why do I need to go to the Supreme Court," Haasan said.
"It is very silly to say I got good publicity; India did not get good publicity. What is the use of me getting good publicity when India's name is being dragged in the muck," Kamal Haasan said on the film row.
"I don't want any more squabbling. This is gruelling, troublesome and insulting. Not only for me, but to several others associated with this movie. This kind of squabbling is not going to take us anywhere," Haasan said.
