Shamitabh Movie Review

Posted by devil | Friday, February 6, 2015 | Posted in , , , , , ,

Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush, Akshara Haasan
Shamitabh has a doubly dramatic act - but less emotion

Story: Mute Daanish becomes a superstar when Amitabh Sinha provides him his voice - what happens when ego pulls body and speech apart?

Review: So, Shamitabh has a lovely concept - a boy falls in love with the movies and dreams of becoming a star. He has pizzazz, passion, presence - but no voice. Daanish (Dhanush) is born mute, his soul, like the film-mad lad of Cinema Paradiso, finding utterance with movies, Igatpuri's bus conductor (rather like a certain Rajini Sir) determined to achieve stardom. Daanish hits Film City and impresses assistant director Akshara (Haasan) but directors reject a mute hero.

Akshara's doctor dad introduces Daanish to technology which, using embedded micro-recorders and ear-pieces, enables a mute person to communicate via a 'borrowed' voice. Daanish and Akshara find the perfect voice - that of Amitabh Sinha (Bachchan), a failed actor, snubbed due to his baritone, who lives in a graveyard, soaked in whisky and cynicism. Amitabh's tickled by the idea of making his rejected voice successful and the 'Shamitabh' team becomes a super-hit.

PK Movie Review

Posted by devil | Friday, December 19, 2014 | Posted in ,

There are very few acting titans in Bollywood whose legacy precedes the release of their movies. But when it comes to the Khans of Bollywood, then it looks like a customary off-shoot preceding as well as succeeding their movies' release. And even among these three iconic Khans, it's Aamir who leads the league with a huge margin.

Jai Ho - Movie Review

Posted by Zainab Amin | Friday, January 24, 2014 | Posted in , , , , ,

Much has been debated about the making and the story of Superstar Salman Khan's latest outing Jai Ho, prior its release. Having hit the marquee today, the movie is somewhat similar to his previous outings like Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard. But what makes it different from his previous movies is its theme and story that send out a clear message to the society. Like Sanjay Dutt in Munna Bhai MMBS, Sallu Miyan rocks the film goers in his different avatar as social crusader. The film throws more light on the humane side of Dabangg Khan. Continue to read Jai Ho review.

Jai Ho is an action drama with all commercial elements to woo all classes of audience. Salman Khan's performance is the main highlight of the film. AR Murugadoss' story, Dilip Shukla's interesting screenplay, punch dialogues, Sajid-Wajid's songs, Sandeep Shirodkar's background score, Santosh Thundiyil's beautiful picturisation, well-choreographed action and dance sequences and a few comedy scenes are other big attractions in the film.

Movie Review: 'Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela' is love in SLB styleWell probably there are no doubts about the fact that wherever it comes to painting a cine delight belonging to the the genre of romance then irrespective of era, probably Shakespearean romance and immortal love-story, "Romeo and Juliet" are going to be the single point reference for all those who have got fascination for the ilk. And if we walk down the memory lanes, then in every era of Indian cinema one or the other cine delight loosely or thoroughly based on Shakespearean style of romance have made it to celluloid. Be it "QSQT", or the recent ones like "Ishaqzaade" and "Issaq" or the recent Indian take on "Romeo and Juliet's" love story i.e. "Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela".

Movie Review: 'Khiladi 786' is Wacky Masala Entertainer

What can be said about a film where a couple named Mili and Bhagat conspire to bring their employer's empire down?
Mili? Bhagat? Get it?
Khiladi 786 is the kind comic orgy done in shades of green orange and pink which doesn't require us to strain our brain. The kicks and grunts, guffaws and chortles, the antics raillery and tomfoolery flow out unstoppered like an uncapped toothpaste tube.

The formula is simple. And stark. Get the audience to laugh at any cost. And some of it does work quite well. Shukriya.

Another key traits which precedes Aamir's style of cinematography is uniqueness of his cine concepts and his novel promotional strategies. Be it 3 Idiots or Taare Zameen Par, every time Aamir has succeeded in setting up a remarkable benchmarks, but contrary to his signature style of promotion this time he created a very conspicuous suspense around the promotions of his suspense drama, Talaash by maintaining an extremely low key affair.

For Bollywood which seems to running short of ideas and innovations, it looks like ace cinematographer S.S. Rajamouli and his widely entertaining cine cantatas are the new ray of hope, which Bollywood cine sorcerers are loving to serve these days after dabbling them in new treacle of entertainment.
Be it Rowdy Rathore inspired from Vikramendu or the recently released cine flick Son of Sardar which is reportedly inspired from another masterpiece Maryada Ramanna of this talented director.
Though Son of Sardar has its conceptual roots in Maryada Ramanna, but as far as the plot is concerned than it is embedded in a different culture where a community known for its cheerful and fun loving nature is moved forth to entertain the masses. This much talked about home production of Ajay after scratching the belly of YRF, finally made it to silver screen with an occupancy of 85% at multiplexes.

'Gangs Of Wasseypur' is not to be missed

Starring Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadha, Huma Quershi, Reema Sen, Piyush Mishra

Rating: ****

Bleeding brilliance in almost every frame, breathing fire through every available orifice that the characters possess, and whipping up a kind of frenzied flamboyant bloodshed that was once associated with the Spaghetti Westerns of Sergio Leone and Sam Peckinpah, Gangs Of Wasseypur is, briefly, one huge gang-bang. No protection provided.
`Gangs Of Wasseypur` is not to be missed
From its bludgeoning opening when merciless marauders ambush a powerful enemy’s fortress-like home with army-like meticulousness Gangs Of Wasseypur takes us into a world where compassion is a dinosaur, forgiveness a faux pas, and kindness an unforgivable sin.

It's not every day that you get to see a film which is a collage of yesteryear's films, and that too, a horrible mish-mash. "Qasam Se Qasam Se" lacks originality from the word go.

Ferrari Ki Sawaari Movie Review

Posted by devil | Friday, June 15, 2012 | Posted in ,

Three actors play a stellar role in Rajesh Mapuskar's directorial debut, FERRARI KI SAWAARI -- Boman Irani, Sharman Joshi and child artiste Ritvik Sahore, who is also making his debut. For the first 45 minutes Mapuskar, along with these three, takes you on a flaming ride. However, just before the interval, he hits a road bump. An exhaustive scene where the politician has second thoughts on wanting a Ferrari for his son's wedding gets a bit tedious taking the fun out of the outstanding drive so far. It picks up again after the break and then stutters and stops before speeding off again to once again come to a grinding halt, just before the end. The end is unnecessarily extended when the movie could have concluded when Kayo returns home from the hospital with his dad and grandfather. Instead, Mapuskar subjects the audience to a duplicate Sachin Tendulkar; a horrible mistake. What was the need for this Mapuskar, when you had succeeded in having Sachin play a pivotal role without him actually being there with a powerful screenplay?
Ferrari Ki Sawaari Movie Review

Moreover, no Under-14 camp to England has been shown 'live', on television, at least not as yet. A glorious innings is cut short by these rather immature, self-destructive shots! Having said that, on the whole, FKS is worth a ride. Rusy (Sharman Joshi) is a single father, a caring son and a doting dad. An upright Parsi who always does what is right. So what if the law has not witnessed his 'crime'.
