Slamming the ruling elite for misusing Article 370 to the hilt, BJP in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday resolved to conduct a holistic debate on Article 370 so that it is abrogated.
In a political resolution adopted at a meeting of the party's state unit, the BJP decided on a number of proposals, including the generating a debate on the Article and providing rights to minorities like
Kashmiri Hindus,
Pakistani refugees and women married to
non-state subjects.
"BJP resolves to generate holistic debate on Article 370 so that it is abrogated," the resolution said.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday threw a challenge to BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, saying he was ready for a debate on Article 370 "anytime, anywhere".
"If they want a debate on Article 370 with me, let them tell me where and when they want to talk about it. Even if they want to hold the debate in Ahmedabad, we are ready for the debate anytime," Omar said at public rally here.
He was reacting to the Gujarat chief minister's call for a debate on Article 370 and whether it has benefited the people of the state.

Article 370 of the Indian Constitution is a 'temporary provision' which grants special autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir. Under Part XXI of the Constitution of India, which deals with "Temporary, Transitional and Special provisions", the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been accorded special status under Article 370.
All the provisions of the Constitution which are applicable to other states are not applicable to J&K. For example, till 1965, J&K had a Sadr-e-Riyasat for governor and Prime Minister in place of chief minister.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today claimed that BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's rally, scheduled here on Sunday, is aimed at creating communal tension and divide people in the name of religion and region.
"People should be cautious of the attempts taken by a particular political party to create communal tension dividing them in the name of religion and region," Omar said at a gathering after laying the foundation of Sangar Bridge over River Tawi in Challana of Jammu district today.
"The rally of December 1 announced by BJP in Jammu is aimed at this target," the Chief Minister added.
