The Android versus iOS rivalry has been ongoing for nearly 10 years. As of Q3 2014, Android owned more than 80% of the smartphone market around the world, but that's split between the dozens of different companies that produce Android phones. About 12% of devices around the world run on iOS, but that money goes straight back to Apple.
There's no clear answer as to which one is winning, but a few mobile executives recently provided some insight to The Information as to how developers view the mobile ecosystem.
Tom Moss, CEO and co-founder of a service called Nextbit that helps you sync data between Android devices, said he doesn't believe Android is offering anything different that makes it more appealing than iOS.
Moss was one of Google's earliest Android employees and helped build the business development and strategic partnership division of Android back in 2007.

The popular mobile messaging application WhatsApp, acquired by Facebook last year for nearly $22 billion, has unveiled a new service for sending messages from a web browser.
WhatsApp, which claims some 500 million users, said its web service will be a "mirror" and would require an internet-connected phone to work.
"Our web client is simply an extension of your phone: The web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device — this means all of your messages still live on your phone," WhatsApp said in a blog post.

Payment gateways are third-party facilitators that allow you to acknowledge payments from your clients online. A payment gateway will usually have a selection of payment alternatives, which include:
- Cash cards
- Credit Card/Debit Cards
- Net-banking
When the client wants to pay from an online store, he can select the option which he gets most suitable and pay you. In a way, the payment gateway operates as a bridge connecting your bank and store to enable the shopper to carry out shopping without any hassle. In place for the service, the payment gateway claims their fee from you through a Transaction Discount Rate (TDR) on the transaction amount.

Nokia X, the recently announced series of smartphones that run a heavily modified version of Android, has been hacked to run the Google Play Store and key Google services.
While Nokia has replaced key
APIs and services, including
Google's Maps and applications marketplace, with its own apps and
Microsoft's services, an
XDA developers forum member has posted a way to root the Nokia X so that it could run the Google launcher, Play Store and other Google apps, including Gmail and Maps.
One of the reasons why the apps work is that Nokia has apparently left the application framework untouched in order to allow apps from third-party app stores work on the phone.

Facebook Inc will buy fast-growing mobile-messaging startup WhatsApp for $19 billion in cash and stock, as the world's largest social network looks for ways to boost its popularity, especially among a younger crowd.
The acquisition of the hot messaging service with more than 450 million users around the world stunned many Silicon Valley observers with its lofty price tag.
But it underscores Facebook's determination to win the market for messaging, an indispensable utility in a mobile era.

Fresh water suitable for life flowed on the surface of the Red Planet
four billion years ago, according to new evidence found by NASA’s Mars
Rover Opportunity.
The findings from rock samples collected and examined by Opportunity
have confirmed an ancient wet environment that was milder and older than
the acidic and oxidising conditions revealed by rocks the rover
examined previously, NASA said.
“While Mars is too cold now to have the liquid water needed for life,
we’ve had evidence for past water activity on the planet from satellite
images of valleys and analysis of rocks by the Rovers,” Dr Paulo de
Souza, who is on the science team led by Cornell University’s Professor
Steven Squyres, said.
“But the water that once shaped those landscapes and minerals was as
acidic as vinegar,” de Souza from the Commonwealth Scientific and
Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) said in a statement.
“Our latest research has found not only the earliest episode of water
activity documented yet by the Opportunity Rover, but that the
geochemistry of the 4 billion year old rocks indicates extensive
deposits of past water that’s among the freshest, most life-sustaining
found so far anywhere on Mars,” said de Souza.
“If there was ever life on Mars, then this would have been the mud for it to live in,” he said.
On the day of its 10th anniversary on the Red Planet, Opportunity is
examining the rim of the Endeavour Crater. It has driven 38.7 kilometres
from where it landed on January 24, 2004. The site is about halfway
around the planet from NASA’s latest Mars rover, Curiosity.

According to the study, the tendency of searching online and buying offline is higher among urban respondents as 64 per cent of them use e-commerce websites to research on products that they are planning to buy offline, while just 20 per cent of non-urban respondents do so.
The trend is largely due to the consumer apprehensions of e-commerce transactions with 30 per cent consumers expressing concerns regarding the
product quality and 28 per cent fearing wrong product delivery, the study highlighted.
Commenting on the findings, Zinnov Market Expansion Director Praveen Bhadada said, "About two-third of population is currently using e-commerce websites to research on products, largely due to lack of availability of credit/debit cards, trust on the delivery part and the trust on what they will get as the final product."
On e-commerce market generally, Bhadada said, "
Consumer mobility is on the rise with 35 per cent consumers using mobility devices for e-commerce activities which lay a huge market for e-commerce players. What we have seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg and the e-commerce & mobility market is bound to
grow exponentially."

Humour,
Technology,
Top 10,

It’s seems like people have always been hardwired to laugh at the misfortune of others. It transcends all cultures, nations, and ages. As you read these words, a group of school kids in Hong Kong are peeing their pants laughing at a kid who did a faceplant into a mud puddle, somebody in Paris is guffawing at a guy getting a whifflebat to the crotch, and a grandma in Texas is chuckling under her breath at a cousin who doesn’t know his fly is undone. As long as it isn’t happening to you, personal humiliation can be totally hilarious.
Before the Internet, the only way to experience these hilarious events was to be in the right place at the right to time. But, now there is a whole slew of websites that document the hurts, humiliations, and downright stupidity of the human race and present it in an easily navigated format. Here are the 10 funniest websites that traffic in human misery:
10. People of Walmart
The biggest retail chain in the world, WalMart offers its customers a wide variety of consumer goods at reasonable prices in convenient locations. According to the blogPeople of Walmart, it also is the last refuge for every freak and weirdo in the United States of America. Every day the site posts disturbing, yet fascinating, pictures of the outlandishly attired folks who shop at WalMart. The site has built up an archive of the unbelievably awful ways people dress even though they know other human beings will be able to see them. It’s revolting, funny, and strangely hypnotic. Don’t visit the site unless you have at least an hour to descend into the world of skin tight pants on 300 pound women, mullets of all shapes and sizes, and more pictures of old guys in drag than you ever thought possible. Also, it’s probably not a good idea to check it out on your lunch hour.
9. Fail Blog
Everybody screws up sometimes. If we’re lucky, no one is around to see our mistakes and we can carry the failure buried deep within ourselves next to the guilt and shame. If we’re unlucky, some jerk is going to film the whole thing and put it onFailblog- a collection of people making stupid yet laugh-out-loud funny mistakes. There are tons of videos of dudes trying to jump off walls, do crazy bike tricks, or generally wow their friends with some amazing act of daredevilry that ends in gut-busting tragedy, but the real hilarity comes from the seemingly endless photos of mislabelled products and signs that apparently litter stores and restaurants across the nation. From terrible misspellings and grammar bombs to unintentional double entendres, Failblog shows that you don’t need a bike and ramp on your roof to screw up in a hilarious way. Although that can really help.
8. Regretsy
For those of you who don’t know it, Etsy.com is a website for people who want to sell their handmade crafts. For a small fee, they can put up ads that show the world the things they’ve made. Some of the stuff is great and was obviously made with care by people who really love making crafts. Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff is complete garbage. To save you the trouble of searching through it all, Regretsy.com combs through the crafts and finds the best of the worst. Whether it’s horrible clothing, ugly art, or just plain old junk, Regretsy.com finds it and brings it to you in all its cheap, kitschy glory. Not only is it an amazing collection of crap, but it’s also a great document of just how disillusioned people can be about their own talent.

One of the reasons Facebook can be such an asset to do business online is due to the social atmosphere that thrives there. If you think about it, don't you naturally talk about things that you buy, or restaurants where you eat, or the place you bought your car or contracted with to clean your carpets. If you're happy with the result you get, you talk about it.
On Facebook, you post a picture and make a comment. Then someone else might reply to the comment and before you know it there is a whole stream of comments. If you talk about an object or a service, someone who is interested wants to learn more about them. How great is it for that business if they have a Facebook page set up and your friend can go immediately there to check it out.

On Twitter, you have the opportunity to follow other people or businesses and they can follow you, as long as you both have your accounts set up as public. There is also the opportunity to make your account private, and manually approve all requests to connect. There are conversations happening about pretty much any topic you can think of and with the launch of hashtags, where you attach a hashtag symbol to a keyword, you can follow an ongoing exchange.
Businesses can profit on Twitter for a number of reasons. First, it can be the favorite place to be online for many of your customers. To connect with prospects or customers, you need to be where they are. Second, people are talking about the products or services your business can provide, whether you or there or not. What better way to prospect than to observe a conversation and be able to provide help, support, instruction or enlightenment. When done in a genuine and authentic way, and not with sole intent to sell something, your valuable input is welcome.

A casino owner-turned-commercial developer is asking $7.85 million to sell a Las Vegas home, and he's willing to accept the online currency bitcoin for the deal.
Jack Sommer said he got the idea to seek bitcoin for his 25,000-square-foot (2,300-square meter) mansion from two of his sons, who've been involved in making and trading the currency.
"The advantage is that we're expanding our market and adding some notoriety," Sommer said.
Bitcoin peer-to-peer trading began in 2009. Value is purchased through an exchange website with a mainstream paper currency, such as dollars or euros, though trading isn't government-regulated.
Using the currency can streamline international business deals, said Julian Tosh, a consultant and owner of the marketplace website bitcoinsinvegas.com.
"There are a bunch of people who have bitcoins, and they're dying for a place to spend it," Tosh told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Intelligence Bureau chief Syed Asif Ibrahim on Saturday conceded that Indian security agencies were handicapped by technical and procedural constraints in regulating malicious content on the internet, and favoured foreign content providers to be brought within the ambit of Indian laws.
Speaking about the deliberations during the three-day DGP conference here, which comprised a dedicated session on social media and law enforcement, Ibrahim said: "It was noticed that while security agencies in India are handicapped with technical and procedural constraints (in filtering malicious posts on social media), foreign law enforcement agencies have unfettered access to social media, considerably enhancing their law enfocement capabilities".
Acknowledging that the legal framework in this regard was still evolving in India, the IB chief said the DGP conference had recommended governing of foreign content by Indian laws, "supplemented with creation of our own cyber sub-space".
