Mummified 200-year-old monk found in Mongolia in 'very deep meditation'

Posted by devil | Thursday, February 5, 2015 | Posted in , ,

A Buddhist academic has said a 200-year-old mummified monk discovered in Mongolia may not be dead but in a "very deep meditation".

The preserved body was discovered in the lotus position, covered in animal hide, last week in the Songinokhairkhan district, close to the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar.

Forensic examinations are being carried out on the remains, which investigators believe belong to a man who may have been a Lama, or a teacher of Tibetan Buddhism.

Now, an expert has claimed the monk may have been in a rare spiritual state known as "tukdam".

Ganhugiyn Purevbata, founder and professor of the Mongolian Institute of Buddhist Art at Ulaanbaatar Buddhist University, told The Siberian Times: "Lama is sitting in the lotus position vajra, the left hand is opened, and the right hand symbolizes of the preaching Sutra.

"This is a sign that the Lama is not dead, but is in a very deep meditation according to the ancient tradition of Buddhist lamas."

The mummified remains have reportedly been taken for examination at the Ulaanbataar National Centre of Forensic Expertise, according to The Telegraph.

The Siberian Times/Morning Newspaper Mongolia It has been suggested the mummified monk was a teacher of the Buryat Buddhist Lama Dashi-Dorzho Itigilov, who was born in 1852, and was reported to have died in 1927 while meditating.
It is understood the body was reburied in a coffin packed with salt and left until 2002 when it was once again exhumed, 75 years after Itigilov's death. (Photo courtesy: The Siberian Times/Morning Newspaper Mongolia)

WTF: Alabama police find heroin in toddler's diaper, arrest father

Posted by devil | Saturday, December 27, 2014 | Posted in , ,

Police in Alabama arrested a man after finding 14 grams of heroin hidden in his 2-year-old daughter's diaper, a discovery aided by a tip from the girl's 5-year-old sister, authorities said on Tuesday.

Narcotics detectives in the Birmingham suburb of Irondale pulled over the car driven by 23-year-old Kenneth Bell on Dec. 8 on suspicion he was moving drugs, said Irondale Police spokesman Detective Michael Mangina.

A drug-sniffing dog detected the presence of narcotics in the car, and police ordered Bell, his two daughters and their mother out of the vehicle.

Bell's elder daughter then told detectives that "Daddy put something in sister's diaper," Mangina said.

Police had the girls' mother undress the toddler, at which point they saw a bulge in her diaper caused by a bag of heroin, with an estimated street value of $2,500, Mangina said.

Bell was arrested on charges of chemical endangerment of a child and drug trafficking, Mangina said. He was later freed after posting $25,000 bail.

Danish zoo shoots giraffe and feeds it to lions

COPENHAGEN: Saying it needed to prevent inbreeding, the Copenhagen Zoo killed a 2-year-old giraffe and fed its remains to lions as visitors watched, ignoring a petition signed by thousands and offers from other zoos and a private individual to save the animal.

Marius, a healthy male, was put down Sunday using a bolt pistol, said zoo spokesman Tobias Stenbaek Bro. Visitors, including children, were invited to watch while the giraffe was then skinned and fed to the lions.

Marius' plight triggered a wave of online protests and renewed debate about the conditions of zoo animals. Before the giraffe was killed, an online petition to save it had received more than 20,000 signatures.

But the public feeding of Marius' remains to the lions was popular at Copenhagen Zoo. Stenbaek Bro said it allowed parents to decide whether their children should watch what the zoo regards as an important display of scientific knowledge about animals.

Stenbaek Bro said the zoo, which now has seven giraffes left, was recommended to put down Marius by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria because there already were a lot of giraffes with similar genes in the organization's breeding programme.

The Amsterdam-based EAZA has 347 members, including many large zoos in European capitals, and works to conserve global biodiversity and achieve the highest standards of care and breeding for animals.

10 Bizarre & Controversial Archeological Discoveries

Posted by devil | Friday, January 10, 2014 | Posted in , , , , ,

Many strange archeological discoveries have been made in modern history.  Hundreds of artifacts have been unearthed that have baffled scientists and challenged modern man’s view of history.  Many of these objects have been labeled out of place artifacts or anachronisms.  These archeological discoveries are always controversial and the scientific community is extremely selective in what they accept as fact.  Every object on this list has been accused of being an elaborate hoax.  In many cases, a conspiracy is the only explanation, without an extensive rewriting of the world’s history books.  These artifacts tell a story of ancient civilizations, Pre-Columbian trans-oceanic contracts, and mysterious technological advancements.  Many of these archeological discoveries challenge the scientific theory of evolution, as well as many religious beliefs.

10. Acámbaro Figures

Discovered: 1944
The Acámbaro Figures are a collection of small ceramic figurines allegedly found inAcámbaroGuanajuato, Mexico.  They were discovered by Waldemar Julsrud in July of 1944.  According to accounts, Julsrud stumbled upon the artifacts while riding his horse in the Acámbaro area.  He hired a local farmer to dig up the remaining figures, paying him for each object he found.  Eventually, the farmer and his assistants discovered over 32,000 figures, which included representations of everything from dinosaurs to people from all over the world, including Egyptians, Sumerians, and bearded Caucasians.  The Acámbaro Figures have been cited as out of place artifacts, as they are clearly human made and portray a large variety of dinosaur species.  According to all history books, humans did not live in the time of the dinosaurs.  Upon the discovery of the figures, many creationists from all over the world proclaimed the artifacts legitimate.  If these figures are genuine, it could stand as credible evidence for the coexistence of dinosaurs and humans, which would severely damage the theory of evolution and offer support for the literal interpretation of the Bible.
Attempts have been made to date these figures using Thermoluminescence, or TL dating, and the results suggested a date around 2500 BCE.  A man named Don Patton claims he found radiocarbon dates for the figures ranging from 6500 years to 1500 years ago; however, the objects are in very good shape and show no characteristic evidence of having been in the ground for at least 1500 years. If they were authentic artifacts, they should be scratched and marred from the rocky soil, which is characteristic of other objects found in that area of Mexico.  Other supporters of the figures claim that the incredible detail of the dinosaurs suggest a firsthand experience with the creatures. The sheer number of the figures discovered is often cited as evidence for a hoax.  To date, no credible scholars of archaeology or paleontology accept the discovery as valid.

9. The Dropa Stones

Discovered: 1938
The alleged story of the Dropa Stones is as follows. In 1938, an archeological expedition was sent to investigate a secluded area of the Baian-Kara-Ula Mountains on the border that divides China and Tibet.  The group discovered a series of caves at the summit of the mountains.  The caves contained a large collection of graves and the walls were decorated with drawings of people with elongated heads together with images of the sun, moon, and stars.  The archeologists uncovered the graves and discovered the remains of ancient beings.  The skeletons were a little more than three feet tall, with abnormally large skulls.  Inside of the tombs a collection of stone disks were recovered.  The disks were almost twelve inches in diameter, with a hole in the center.  The objects had a groove on the surface of the disk and spiraled outwards from the center hole forming a double spiral.  Closer inspection showed that the grooves were actually a line of small carvings or signs.

Bizarre News Stories That Are Hard to Believe By Sean Chard

Bizarre news stories are fascinating to read but sometimes hard to believe. It is difficult to understand how some people get into the situations found on bizarre news sites, but they are extremely entertaining and make people feel better about themselves.
In California, a stolen car landed on the roof of a local home. The car was going too fast and hit a tree stump, causing the car to launch in the air and land on the roof. People were in the home when the car landed, but no one was injured too bad. The car had to be removed with a crane from a professional towing company. The driver fled the scene, but was arrested at his girlfriend's home later that night.

Also in California, drivers on the road experienced a literal fork in the road. A 62 year old retired teacher erected a six foot tall fork in the intersection of two streets. His inspiration came from the latest Muppet movie where the Muppets found a giant silverware fork when they were looking for a fork in the road.
