A dastardly pirate steals a hamburger recipe from the bottom of the sea and it's up to a sponge, a starfish and their pals to get it back.
So is it too early to start next year's Oscar race?
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, but "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" — SpongeBob SquarePants' second big screen adventure, following 2004's "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" — is inspired lunacy. Even those not acquainted with the denizens of Bikini Bottom will find plenty to chuckle at in the crazypants story, which incorporates time travel, dimensional portals and a dolphin with an English accent that oversees the galaxy.
The story, as it were, concerns the highly coveted recipe for Krabby Patties, the delicious burgers that our hero SpongeBob flips at the Krusty Krab. The evil Plankton, owner of rival restaurant the Chum Bucket, is out to nab the secret formula for himself, and a fight over its contents causes the underwater town of Bikini Bottom to erupt into chaos.

Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" and Disney's animated fantasy hit "Frozen" were the two most pirated films of 2014, according to a firm tracking illegal downloads.
Numerous US media, including Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, has published a list of this year's 20 most illegally downloaded movies, compiled by piracy tracker Excipio.
The firm tallied "torrent" downloads, where computer users illegally share movies and other media over the internet, for the period from January 1 to December 23, according to Variety.
Excipio said "The Wolf of Wall Street" was illegally downloaded more than 30 million times, while "Frozen" was pirated more than 29.9 million times.
In third place was "RoboCop," with a little less than 29.9 million illegal downloads, though this included both 2014's re-booted version and the 1987 original.

Shirley Temple Black, who as a dimpled, precocious and determined little girl in the 1930s sang and tap-danced her way to a height of Hollywood stardom and worldwide fame that no other child has reached, died on Monday night at her home in Woodside, Calif. She was 85.
Her publicist, Cheryl Kagan, confirmed her death.
Ms. Black returned to the spotlight in the 1960s in the surprising new role of diplomat, but in the popular imagination she would always be America’s darling of the Depression years, when in 23 motion pictures her sparkling personality and sunny optimism lifted spirits and made her famous. From 1935 to 1939 she was the most popular movie star in America, with Clark Gable a distant second. She received more mail than Greta Garbo and was photographed more often than President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The little girl with 56 perfect blonde ringlets and an air of relentless determination was so precocious that the usually unflappable Adolphe Menjou, her co-star in her first big hit, “Little Miss Marker,” described her as “an Ethel Barrymore at 6” and said she was “making a stooge out of me.”
When she turned from a magical child into a teenager, audience interest slackened, and she retired from the screen at 22. But instead of retreating into nostalgia, she created a successful second career for herself.

He may not have the figure of Beyoncé or the buzz of Madonna. But this year's half time star —Bruno Mars — brought dynamism and an old-fashioned sense of showmanship to his Super Bowl blow-out.
Opening with his smash "Locked Out of Heaven," the pompadour'd star whipped through a tight and brisk run of four hits. His sole guest stars — The Red Hot Chili Peppers — seamlessly slipped their percussive song "Give It Away" into the headliner's "Runaway Baby."
During his 12-minute performance, Bruno Mars whipped through four of his hits, including 'Runaway Baby.'

He was a beefy 5-foot-10 but won an Oscar for playing the slight, 5-foot-3 Truman Capote. He had the booming voice of a deity but often played schlubs and conflicted characters.
He could be heartfelt and giving, as with his male nurse in "Magnolia" or rock critic in "Almost Famous," or creepily Machiavellian, such as the gamemaster in the latest "Hunger Games" movie.
Philip Seymour Hoffman was an actor who could be anybody.
"I don't know how he does it," director Mike Nichols told The New York Times Magazine in 2008. Nichols directed Hoffman on both stage ("The Seagull," "Death of a Salesman") and screen ("Charlie Wilson's War"). "Again and again, he can truly become someone I've not seen before but can still instantly recognize. ... He may look like Phil, but there's something different in his eyes. And that means he's reconstituted himself from within, willfully rearranging his molecules to become another human being."
"Philip Seymour Hoffman's precise, uncanny performance as Capote doesn't imitate the author so much as channel him, as a man whose peculiarities mask great intelligence and deep wounds," wrote Roger Ebert about 2005's "Capote."
Hoffman was found dead Sunday. Reports attribute his death to a drug overdose.

Snyder stated, "Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What's great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He's a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions."

BEIJING: James Bond's new avtar seems to have won the world with record breaking success for 'Skyfall' but lost out to the Chinese censors, who have cut off a scene and twisted some lines in the film. Skyfall hit movie halls across China on Monday about three months after its release in the US.
A scene, in which French hitman Patrice (played by Ola Rapace) shoots a Chinese security guard after entering a skyscraper in Shanghai, has been completely removed. Chinese subtitles in another scene are different in meaning from the original dialogue in English, which talks about child prostitution in China. The scene involves Bond asking a bar hostess (Berenice Marlohe) in the gambling heaven of Macau if she was forced into prostitution at an early age and her body tattooed by the kidnappers. The original lines remain in the soundtrack but the Chinese subtitles suggest that Bond is asking her about being coerced into the gang.

Madonna, who strips bare to promote her new perfume, looks several decades younger than her 54 years in the arresting ad to promote her Truth or Dare by Madonna Naked scent.
The Queen of Pop has spent much of the year flashing the flesh at her live shows, and she's gone the whole hog on this occasion.
Only this time, she's arguably had the years turned back by a generous helping of the airbrush.
Striking a seductive pose with her hands behind her head, Madonna's blushes are spared by the bust-concealment of her new perfume's logo, the Sun reported.
The singer has been heavily criticised for refusing to gracefully accept middle age, choosing instead to defy her years onstage by donning youthful attire like a cheerleader's outfit.
However, a recent shot of her in New York showed Madonna looking every bit her age.
She wore a cosy gorilla hat for her low-key visit but her au naturel face appeared wrinkled.

Actress Kristen Stewart doesn't enjoy being in the spotlight but has learned not to let it upset her or restrict her behavior.
Stewart says she won't give up her personal life for the sake of her public image.
"The spotlight is not something I get off on. You can't let it stunt you. Though, that's the thing. It's a huge change that I've definitely noticed within myself from the beginning to the end of this - that I'm more comfortable with walls being down," contactmusic.com quoted Stewart as saying.
"Because you can actually have human experiences and not deprive yourself of a normal life. You get too caught up in what other people think of you. You start to become a really disjointed persona and everyone's perception is their own," said the 22-year-old.
Stewart's top tip to survive becoming "exceedingly famous" is to just not overthink it and ignore other people's opinions.
"If you're considering other people's opinions about your life, that they really know nothing about, you are going to live a very disjointed, really unsatisfying, awful existence."
