What's All the Fuss About Female Orgasm?

Share The Knowledge

Let's face it: guys' orgasms are fairly straightforward. It's easy to tell when they've had one. They're fairly universal in terms of provoking one. And any woman who feels inexperienced need not worry because her partner will walk her through what to do.
The female orgasm is not so simple and straightforward. Besides the obvious problem that lot of what you're working with is 'under the hood,' so to speak-which effectively has you working in the dark-there's the added complication that many women don't have them, and the techniques that allow one woman to have one may not have any impact on another woman.

The biology of the Female Orgasm Explained
If you want to have the female orgasm explained, you have to first understand how they are biologically different from men's orgasms. If you want proof of the complexity and elusive nature of the female orgasm, you need to look no further than the fact that only about 25% of women consistently climax at all during sex with a partner. (For contrast, roughly 90% of men climax every time.)
At one time, science insisted that the female orgasm explained reproduction, but we now know that women can become pregnant without ever becoming aroused. Orgasm is not required for pregnancy. (Again, in contrast to men, who must ejaculate in order for procreation.)
When a female becomes aroused, both her clitoris and vagina become engorged with blood. This causes the vaginal walls to lubricate. As arousal progresses, her heart rate and breathing will intensify. The vagina will contract in order to clutch the penis of her partner. If she continues to be aroused, her body will house tension in the muscles and nerves of the thighs, buttocks, pelvic area, and genitals. If she is lucky enough to experience orgasm, her vagina, anus, and uterus will contract at the same time. She may have a small O, which is categorized as between three and five contractions. Or she may luck out and have a big one, which is categorized as between ten and fifteen contractions. Afterward, her body will relax. At that moment, oxytocin is released into her brain, signaling a need for cuddling. (Yes, it really is biological.)
If she does not experience orgasm after all of that arousal, she may have an ache and heaviness in her pelvis. Scientists refer to this as female "blue balls." It is harmless-but frustrating and many women report that one orgasm alone is not enough to relieve the tension enough to prevent this achiness and cramping.
That, in a nutshell, is the female orgasm explained. That's the biology of the experience.
Types of Female Orgasms
The first part of understanding the female orgasm is realizing that there are at least three types of orgasms for women: clitoral, vaginal, and combinations. However, the elusive female orgasm is still mysterious. Roughly 30% of women have tremendous difficulty reaching orgasm. In fact, up to fifteen percent of women have never had an orgasm at all. Most women prefer or only experience orgasm through clitoral stimulation. (Studies show at least half, but perhaps as much as three-quarters of woman fall into this category.) Only roughly 30% of women can experience an orgasm through vaginal intercourse.
Now that you have the female orgasm explained, you will be better equipped to help give your partner one. Although the female experience is very different from the male experience, the whole point of the encounter is pleasure and intimacy. Knowing the basics of the female orgasm makes you better prepared.
