The 6 best Canadian business schools in the world: How grads’ paycheques stack up
The Financial Times is out with its global ranking of business schools, with Harvard and Stanford taking first and second place respectively.
Six Canadian universities made the 100-school list, but in terms of Return on Investment, Canada comes up wanting. According to the FT, graduates from the top schools in Canada can expect to earn substantially less than their American counterparts.
Here’s how they fared, including graduates’ average salary and percentage increase in pay from their pre-MBA days.
- Western University’s Richard Ivey School of Business in London, Ont., ranked second-last among the Canadian schools, 78th place on the global ranking. But it came out on top for salary. Ivey grads make $103,112, an 83% raise from pre-grad days.
- University of Toronto: Rotman’s school topped the Canadian schools ranking 46th on the list, but came second on salary. Rotman’s grads pull in $97,652, a 91% rise.
- York University Schulich’s business school ranked 52th on the global list, up from previous years. Average salary was pegged at $93,207, a 99% increase.
- University of British Columbia’s Sauder business school ranked 57th on the global list, an improvement from past years. Salaries average US$90,833, a 76% increase.
- McGill University’s Desautels school was 76th on the global list, but close behind on salary. Desautels grads average $90,440 a year, a 89% increase from pre-grad.
- University of Alberta’s business school took last place on the global ranking, but at least it made the list this year. Average salaries come in at $86,666, a 85% hike.
So how do graduates’ ROIs compare with the FT ranking’s heavy hitters?
Graduates at the world’s 3 best business schools, according to the Financial Times, Harvard, Stanford and University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton school make on average $187,223, $195,553 and $186,210 respectively.
