How to Get the Street Look Right

Share The Knowledge

The most important aspect of the street look is making a statement with your clothing and showcasing your own personal style.

Street fashion is actually an art which the male fraternity is still trying hard to get right. When you find people trying hard "to be stylish", not that he was; he could very well be an extremely naturally stylish guy. We can applaud the efforts and encourage him to continue to try new looks.

And if someone is really trying it hard then it is advisable to either prep it up or pull it down. There are lots of different looks in men's fashion and style these days, and in the streets, men's styles and trends continue to stay steady for the moment.

PATTERNS
Collars on shirts and jackets have really stood apart. Not only how they are designed, but how they are worn: Wearing a shirt buttoned up or leaving a button or two open, create different looks.

Fully zip a cowl neck jacket or let it hang loose. Doing it differently can make a big difference.

Loose tops and volume pants are giving a completely new dimension to the menswear silhouette.

Cuffed pants and asymmetrical plackets have also caught up.

COLOR
The most important rule is to only highlight ONE color. The rest should only complement and neutralize. For e.g. an ochre trouser looks good with an earthy blue or green upper. Cream and white will also do the job.

Two equally loud colors will clash. If one is strong, the other has to be subdued.

Monochromatic hues with one flashy color can also do the trick.

MIXING
Mixing or layering ‘types’ of clothing gives a different flavor altogether. For e.g. a bubble vest on top a suit!

Gilet on top of a knitwear, denim jacket with rolled up shorts, a suit where trousers are substituted with shorts, Nehru sleeveless long gilet over a tee are all great options.

Denim on denim is another striking look of the season.

Sportswear and fine tailoring are coming up together. Drawstrings, hoodies, zippers are also being incorporated into suits.

ACCESSORIES
The most basic rule about accessories is to keep it minimal. Accessories on a man should not be very flashy. Try not to have dozens of them dangling round your neck and simultaneously on your fingers, wrist and so on. You can have a smart neck piece, combo of leather and metal, a good watch, different dial color or strap texture, etc.

A printed tie in quirky color with illustrative prints or some floral motifs is itself a very strong piece in an ensemble. It can be knotted like a scarf can also be worn as a belt.

Shoes in plaid and striper prints are a rage now, put together with solid neon socks. In fact, bright striper socks have caught the eye of the trendsetters.

Bags are no more only a female’s best friend. Sling bags, newsboy bags, totes and various other adaptations are in vogue- be it leather or canvas. However, be careful with the right color and material so as not to go overboard with the whole look.

Shades- Aviators, wayfarers in neon solid tones as well as printed in zebra lines or leopard prints.

Suspenders- printed, solid, striped or checkered, just go for them!

At the end of it all, do keep in mind your personality. You shouldn't lose your individuality in the process.
