On April 9, 2014 a 16-year-old student of Franklin Regional High School near Pittsburgh, USA attacked his classmates wounding 20 and leaving 4 in critical condition with Knife stabs.
The incidence is not isolated and every year we come across such more than bizarre, mind numbing incidences.
Some of the Deadliest School Massacres in History that will leave you startled by the end of the read:

10. Columbine High School Massacre, 13 Dead: April 20, 1999, 2 students Eric and Dylan murdered 12 students and a teacher at Columbine High School, Colorado USA. The duo was loaded with explosives and arms and injured over 2 dozen students. Both committed suicide in the school library.
Reason: The teenage assailants made preparation for this dreadful event for over a year without anyone, including parents and counselors, getting any hint of their horrific activities and behavioral changes. Theories around their being picked up at school, depression, violent games etc are the reasons under speculation.


9Dunblane School Massacre, United Kingdom, 17 Dead
Thomas Hamilton killed fifteen children and one adult at Dunblane primary School before committing suicide. This has been one of the deadliest school massacre acts in United Kingdom.
This massacre led to the ban on the private ownership on handguns. Tributes have been paid to the Dunblane victims by Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler and Andy Murray.
Reason: Thomas’s history as a pedophile has ruined his career as a Teacher and Couch which had consequently led to his failure as a Shop Owner as well.

8. Cologne School Massacre, Germany, 10 Dead
The Cologne massacre event had 8 students and 2 teachers mass murdered by Walter Seifert. The attacker later used homemade flamethrower, lance and mace instead of a gun or a bomb, killing and wounding twenty two other students.
Reason: Walter Seifert after being dismissed from the Police service blamed the Public policy and system as unfair for cheating him out of his rights. Post losing his wife during pre-mature pregnancy Walter’s agitations and inconsistent behavior was deemed unfit.

7. Erfurt Massacre, Germany, 16 Dead
April 26, 2002 Erfurt, Germany, the assailant Robert Steinhäuser  an expelled student fired shotgun killing 16 people which consisted of 13 faculty members, 2 students and one police officer.
Reason: Robert was believed to have been expelled on the basis of fake medical certificate.

6. Finland School Shootings, 19 Dead
This involves the twin school shootings at Jokela High School and Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences in Finland on November, 7, 2007 and September 23, 2008 respectively.  In both the separate incidents, the gunmen were students who went on a killing spree murdering 19 people and injuring more than 20 people.
Reason: In one of the event the assailant 18 year old Pekka-Eric Auvinen was identified as unstable by his teacher. He was observed as with militant tendencies on anti-depressants. Pekka released a video on You-Tube hours before the massacre.

5. Rio de Janeiro School Shooting, Brazil, 12 Dead   
April 2011: The event took place at an elementary school in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil where Wellington Oliveira entered the premises of Tasso da Silveira Municipal School shooting twelve children and leaving many others injured who were between the ages of 12 and 14.
Reason: Oliveira was an alumnus at the school and entered by stating that he wanted to speak to the class. Post the incidence it was observed that Oliveira was depressed and lonely post the death of his close family members.

4. Ã‰cole Polytechnique massacre, Canada, 14 Dead
December 6 1989, Montreal, Quebec, Canada: The gunman, Marc Lepine shot about twenty eight people before killing himself. Specifically targeting women, Lepine shot fourteen women in just under 20 minutes.
Reason: Lepine believed these women to be feminist because of whom his life was ruined.

3. Ma’alot Massacre, Israel, 25 Dead
15 May, 1974, Netiv Meir Elementary School:  3 members from the Democratic Front for the liberation of Palestine instigated a hostage situation taking about 115 people as hostages which included 105 children. The event resulted in the killing of 22 children including 3 others over a period of 3 days.
Reason: The assailants demanded the release of Palestinian militants from prison.

2. Bath School, USA, 38 Dead
The assailant Andrew Kehoe set off a major bomb explosion in the Bath Consolidated School, Michigan, USA, killing 38 children, two teachers and four others.
Reason:  Andrew Kehoe was angry at his defeat in the local elections for township clerk.

1. Beslan Massacre, Russia, 385 Dead
1 September 2004, North Ossetia, Russia: 1,100 people were taken hostages, including 777 children under the age of eighteen. This event is considered as one of the most brutal and murderous school massacres to take place in the history of such shootings leaving more than 385 dead and about 783 injured.
Reason: The terrorists demanded recognition of the independence of Chechnya at the UN and Russian withdrawal from Chechnya.
