Proper Use of Inkjet Cartridge for Printer Maintenance
Share The Knowledge
Do you want to help make your inkjet printer's life last long? Be sure you use your inkjet cartridge properly. Correct use and maintenance of the cartridge is important to ensure that your printer gives you an excellent output every time and for a long period. This will also help you save money in buying new parts and accessories or a completely new printer. Here are some suggestions on how to make your cartridge and printer last long.
It's not advisable to "squeeze" the ink out of your cartridge up to the last drop before you replace it. You can think of the gasoline tank or battery in your vehicle, which you should never really allow to go empty before refilling or recharging. Letting your printer run until it's completely used up the ink in your cartridge will burn out your printer. Once you notice that the print output comes with faded ink or with streaks, it's already time to replace your cartridge. It's ideal to always have one backup cartridge, so you don't have to rush to the store or force your printer to work even if it has already run out of ink.
Not using your printer often enough also damages it. Its inkjet cartridge can dry out if you haven't used your printer for a number of weeks. To keep your printer in good condition, print at least a page of anything every week. It can be the lyrics of your favorite song or an activity sheet for your kid to do. This is to enable the ink to flow and not dry out.
If you're using a type of printer that uses ink tanks, instead of print heads, you're quite fortunate, because it's easier to maintain and less delicate. The only thing you need to watch out for is to keep the seal on the bottom of your tank intact. Otherwise, the ink will surely dry out.
Print heads have a copper contact surface at the inkjet cartridge base. These are extremely sensitive, so never touch it. Even the slightest scratch on a print head may cause your printer not to be able to perform anymore. The ink of printers using print heads dries out more easily than that of printers with ink tanks. If there's any blockage due to the dried out ink, you can try soaking the print head in isopropyl alcohol. Print head must be totally dry before re-installing in the printer.
Printers and their parts and accessories aren't cheap. If you want to maximize your printer's life, these measures about cartridge use and maintenance would be useful reminders for you.
