Santa Claus
Every picture of Santa shows a big man with a white beard dressed in a red suit. This image was created by those entrepreneur people at the world famous soft drinks cola company back in 1930. They used the image of Santa Claus in their winter advertising campaign and chose to dress him in their official colours of red and white. This look for Santa become popular all throughout the world and has stayed with us ever since.
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
In the Christmas season of 1939, the American retail enterprise Montgomery Ward created a reindeer story to give to customers as part of their seasonal advertising campaign. Rudolph the read-nosed reindeer was born and it is still a favourite Christmas story in modern times.
Christmas Cards
Sir Henry Cole, an English civil servant and inventor created many innovations in commerce and education in 19th century Britain. He is acknowledged with creating the idea of sending greetings cards at Christmas time, introducing the world's first commercial Christmas card in 1843.
Crackers
The Christmas cracker is a great story of the creativity and determination of UK entrepreneurs. In 1847, almost by accident, Tom Smith invented the cracker. Based on a French sweet wrapped in paper that he liked, he worked for seven years to create a novelty that has become an integral part of the British Christmas tradition. It is basically a small cardboard tube covered in coloured paper that is a twisted shut at each end. It usually contains a bright paper hat, a small gift, and a motto or joke. The unique element is that when the cracker is pulled apart by two people, each holding one end of the twisted paper, the friction creates a small explosive pop produced by a narrow strip of chemical paper.
Christmas And Entrepreneurs In Modern Times
What about Christmas and entrepreneurs in modern times? Digital technology and online business are the real growth areas. Cyber Monday, the biggest online shopping day of the year, hit over $2 billion this year on Monday 2 December. That's a 20% increase over last year with significantly more purchases coming from mobile devices. The digital economy is set to grow even more next year, not only for Christmas and entrepreneurs but for all business owners.
Success in business is mostly about marketing, especially online. Great marketing can sell an average product but poor marketing cannot sell a great product.
