Share The Knowledge
Parliament House attack case convict Afzal Guru's hanging surprised Indians across the world. He was hanged to death in complete secrecy in Tihar Jail, New Delhi at 8am. Guru's hanging in the Tihar Jail of Delhi has also become one of the most talked about events on social media sites like Twitter. The country's social media conscious masses, including the political class, have taken to Twitter to express their relief, happiness, anger or sarcasm over this hanging.
The political brigade on Twitter was led by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and Janta Dal president Subramanian Swamy, who tweeted:
@narendramodi: Der aaye, durust aaye! #Afzal Guru
@Swamy39: I informed MMS that I will move the Supreme Court a Criminal Contempt Case against him if Afzal Guru is not hanged by Feb 15
Among the top trends on Twitter India today are Afzal Guru, Kasab, Tihar Jail (where Guru was hanged) and Parliament. Due to the curfew in Kashmir after Guru's hanging, the top Twitter trends also included Kashmir, Omar Abdullah and J&K.
The public also aired its views on Guru's hanging via Twitter. While some expressed frustration over the delay in his death, others applauded the government for this execution. Some of the tweets about Afzal Guru are below:
