Share The Knowledge

From film releases to 12-course meals at restaurants, Pune is all set to celebrate 'doomsday' 12-12-12.

Suddenly, there seems to be only one topic of conversation that's of interest to everyone - 12-12-12. Some say it's the end of the world, some are voting for Bruce Willis as the ideal Apocalypse saviour, while others are lamenting about all the things they haven't done in life. And then there is a section of people who are all geared up to celebrate this day. After all it comes only once in 89 years. From 12-course meals in restaurants, film releases and 'new beginning' parties, Puneites have found another reason to celebrate.

Marathi filmmaker Viraj Raje will release his film Shyamche Vadil on Wednesday, 12-12-12. "Though Fridays are considered lucky for film releases, I have chosen this day as it comes only once in 89 years. We are looking forward to seeing the response the film gets on this day," says Raje. So does the team think the day will prove lucky for their film? Actor Chinmay Udgirkar, who stars in the film, says, "We thought that it is auspicious and went ahead."

City restaurants too have various plans etched out to make the day a memorable one. "We are planning a 12-course meal. What if the world really comes to an end? So, our customers should be treated to a grand feast before that!" says Diganta Deka, chef-manager of a restaurant at Law College Road. Another eatery in Koregaon Park has planned a 'new beginning' party. Patrons will be treated to free desserts. "We don't believe in the end of the world. It is a new beginning for us and we know that all of us will survive. So we are welcoming this new beginning with celebrations," says Imrun Sethi, owner of the restaurant.

Apart from films and food, a city-based mall is launching a new home concept on this day. "Personally, I don't believe in the end of the Mayan calendar. In fact, as per the Hindu calendar, the day is lucky. So we are launching our project on that day," says Shashank Pathak, CEO of the mall.

Another day which is known as doomsday is December 21. There are some who are planning to celebrate that day as well. So, get ready for an extended end-of-the-world party at a cafe cum bar at Koregaon Park.
